Product height in the bed can be varied between 100 and about 500 mm (average 300 mm), depending on the application. Adjustment of the bed height allows the residence time of the product in the dryer to be varied in accordance with the process requirements. The fluid bed dryer / cooler is divided into several compartments for a quasi plug flow of product. The dried and cooled product is extracted using a special conveyor which determines the product height in the fluid bed and therefore the residence time. Generally, the fluid bed consists of the drying sections (the first compartments at the product inlet) and a cooling section (at the product outlet). For each compartment is provided with a separate air inlet. Heating of the air can be done by using the following medias: steam, natural gas, or other heating medium, depending on the availability.
